Other Fossil watches will reportedly get Wear OS 3 soon.
The next Fossil smartwatch, the Gen 6 Wellness Edition, adds more health and wellness features on top of the Gen 6 watch experience. But more importantly, it’ll be the brand’s first wearable to launch with Google’s Wear OS 3 software.
The Gen 6 Wellness Edition updates the Fossil Gen 6 from last year. The new version has an improved interface and navigation, as well as new wellness metrics. The most significant upgrade will be access to Wear OS 3, which is currently only available on a few smartwatches, including last year’s Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the newer Galaxy Watch 5, and the recently released Google Pixel Watch.
Wear OS 3 combines Google’s existing smartwatch operating system with Tizen OS and Fitbit input. The resulting OS provides what some have called the best non-Apple Watch OS experience, but it has only been available on a few smartwatches since its release last year. Former Fossil Gen 6 watches may also be upgraded to Wear OS 3, according to Droid Life. A request for comment from Fossil was not immediately returned.
The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is scheduled to be available starting Oct. 17 for $299.
