Wayne Hills High School in New Jersey was Greg Olsen’s high school. Later, he majored in criminology at the University of Miami (Florida). At the University of Miami, where he spent three years as a letter winner (2004–2006), he started 26 of the 33 games he participated in, collecting 87 receptions for 1,215 yards (14.0 yards per catch), with six touchdowns.
In his final two seasons at Miami, Olsen started 12 games and was named to the first team and honourable mention of the Atlantic Coast Conference as a junior and a sophomore, respectively. Chicago later selected Olsen in the first round (31st overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. In 2011, Chicago traded him to Carolina.
