NBC Nightly News broadcast a special tribute Thursday evening to recognize the long career of NBC News correspondent Kevin Tibbles, who is retiring. Lester Holt said to Kevin Tibbles after the two-minute filmed tribute aired, “So many of us have looked forward to your stories that remind us of all the good out there and good people.” “Thank you for your storytelling, for your ethics, and for pulling us up every night,” I said on behalf of my coworkers and viewers.
Tibbles has worked at NBC News since 1995 and has spent the last 20 years in Chicago. He has covered wars in places including Kosovo, Rwanda, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and more. He also covered the passing of Princess Diana, the storms Katrina and Rita in New Orleans, and the election of Barack Obama as president at Chicago’s Grant Park in 2008. Additionally, he covered five Olympic events for NBC.
On the Today show, Tibbles’ reporting from Iceland, Thailand, Panama, Dubai, and other places was also highlighted. It’s the suburban community where parents bring their children to see the Fourth of July parade in red wagons or on tricycles decorated with streamers.
It is the town where people are shot at random by a gunman. Now is a time of mourning. It is now the town where experts, who have never visited, will ratchet swords and scream to get points by using the corpses of people as chits. Two of the six American flags that typically adorn our driveway on July 4 were flown at half-staff this year. We made this in remembrance of the six lives lost in Highland Park.
The deliberate misrepresentation of the Second Amendment by a minority of Americans seized their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. May everyone who calls themselves pro-life check their souls to consider their position on gun control and what it really means to be pro-life. Simply disregard the ruling of the court and enforce the strict anti-gun laws that safeguard the residents of civilized states.
This will result in numerous court cases that could last for years or even decades. Their citizens will be shielded from the gun nuts during that entire period. And hopefully, by then, the Supreme Court will be saner. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Second Amendment is now being read incorrectly. It consists of two sections. The first portion of the amendment discusses the need for effective state militias, which was a topic of discussion at the time it was adopted.
The second part, which is dependent upon the first, discusses the individual right to keep and bear arms.
