Myasthenia Gravis: Causes, Symptoms, Prevention
Muscles affected by Myasthenia Gravis (MG) become fatigued and weak and eventually lose all voluntary control. MG is a condition caused by a disruption in the normal transmission of signals between the brain and the muscles.
Both women under the age of 40 and males over the age of 60 have an increased risk of developing MG. Weakened muscles, drooping eyes, double vision (diplopia), trouble speaking, difficulty eating and chewing, and altered facial expressions are all common signs. The condition is termed congenital myasthenic syndrome, and it is quite rare to see it in children.
Myasthenic crisis, malignancies of the thymus gland, thyroid dysfunction (both under and over), and autoimmune diseases are all possible outcomes of this disease. Currently, there is no known effective treatment for myasthenia gravis.
