In a lengthy interview with the New York Times, Jay-Z covers a wide range of topics as he openly admits his guilt. In addition to discussing his most recent album, 4:44, which details his affair with his wife of nine years, Beyonce, as well as their subsequent reunion, Jay-Z also discussed why the couple opted to remain together despite the several affairs in that he was involved in on his side.

“You know, most people walk away, and the divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves,” he said. “The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused and then having to deal with yourself.”

On April 4, 2008, the couple married privately in front of their friends and family members.

“We were sitting in the eye of that hurricane,” Jay-Z added. “Uh, maybe not use hurricane because so many people are affected now. But the best place is right in the middle of the pain. And that’s where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations.”
