On this day in history, Richard Morgan Fliehr was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His name at birth was Ric. People often assume that Flair’s real name is Fred Phillips, but he was actually adopted as a baby. In different words, his name appears either as Fred Demaree or Fred Stewart.
His father adopted him while he was a student at the medical school at the University of Michigan in Detroit. His adoptive mom Kathleen worked for the Star Tribune. Following his adoption, he and his new family settled in Edina, Minnesota.
