Glenn McGrath, one of the best fast bowlers in the game, has been left ‘extremely devastated’ by Shane Warne’s terrible passing at the age of 52 on Friday. Between the early 1990s and 2007, Warne and McGrath were the backbones of Australia’s bowling attack. Together, they won the World Cup, the Ashes, and even retired from Test cricket at the same time. Taking to Instagram, McGrath paid tribute to his ‘good friend,’ writing a moving tribute to him.
“This has been a terrible day for me. Warnie was bigger than life. Until recently, I had no idea what may happen to him. Most people only live 20 years of their lives. He was the pinnacle of the sport’s elite. Because of this, he believed the game was never over, and that he was capable of turning it around and leading us to victory. I believe he led a similar existence to mine, “McGrath penned a piece for The New Yorker.
When it comes to the most wickets taken by a bowling tandem from any country, McGrath and Warne have the honors, with a total of 1001 wickets between them in 104 Tests (772 wickets in 81 Tests). Australia won 71 of the 104 Tests played by McGrath and Warne.

Following Australia’s 5-0 rout of England in the fifth Ashes Test in 2006/07, McGrath and Warne even announced their retirements together. Both played a role in Australia’s reign of terror over international cricket, which saw the merciless Aussies win 16 straight Test matches on two separate occasions.
“There never seemed to be a dull moment in this house. An excellent friend and a devoted parent, he will be missed. I’m praying for Brooke, Jackson, and Summer, whom he adored. Likewise, my thoughts and prayers are with Keith, Bridget, and Jason at this difficult time. My dear friend, there will never be another like you “McGrath was also included.
