On Wednesday night, BBC One’s Shetland concluded on a significant cliffhanger, with two major characters being arrested on suspicion of murder.
Duncan Hunter (Mark Bonnar) and Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall) were both framed for the murder of Donna Killick (Fiona Bell), whose final act before committing suicide was to incriminate both men in her death.
Duncan, Jimmy’s loving step-daughter Cassie’s biological father, had steadily become friends with Jimmy throughout the season, and the two men formed an odd friendship.
Duncan confessed to assisting Donna in committing herself at her request, although Donna had previously sent a letter to her lawyer before her death, implying that the two men planned to murder her.
After Duncan turned himself in (in the hopes of protecting Jimmy), the cops also arrested Jimmy.
Viewers are now clamoring for answers after such a massive cliffhanger, with one important question still unanswered: will Shetland return for a seventh season?

Shetland Season 6 Recap
Let’s take a look back at what happened in Season 6 before we get into all the juicy Season 7 details. Season 6 premiered in October, less than a year after Season 5. The fans were pleased to get a new season so quickly. The makers indicated that they did not want the audience to be kept waiting any longer. In Season 6, the story became more complicated, and we were anxiously anticipating the conclusion of the mystery. The assassination of lawyer Alex Galbraith kicks off the series. What followed was a nail-biting thriller.
From the beginning of the series, it was tough to figure out who the murderer was. We were also introduced to a host of new characters this season. At first, there were only two probable motives for Galbraith’s assassination. The first was for his Donna Killick case, and the second was for Linda Morton’s child custody case. People who are linked to these two incidents are suspected right away. With each episode, though, we are led down a dead-end with Pérez. In the end, what surprises us is that the victim was the first in a series of murders.
This section will include spoilers if you haven’t seen the episode; don’t blame us; we tried to warn you! Finally, we find that Marie-Anne received narcotics from Galbraith and his partner Niven. Her death was caused by an overdose. They had attempted to hide her body. Eve, Marie’s sister, and Anne assassinate Galbraith to conceal Marie’s story. Anne’s Niven gets mixed up in the other murders.
But it was at this point that everyone got bewildered. Donna had asked Duncan to assassinate her despite her will. Despite this, she had left a note indicating that it was a murder, not a suicide and that Duncan was murdering her with Jimmy Pérez’s help.
IMDB Shetland Season 6
The show was given four out of six stars and an 8.2 out of ten ratings. As a result, the show is extremely well-liked by the general population. Because Season 7 has yet to be released, the season’s ratings cannot be displayed at this time. Once the season starts, we’ll be able to tell how well the show is doing. During Season 6, the majority of episodes had ratings of around or over an 8. Only Episode 3 scored a 7.7 out of 10 ratings. As a result, we can expect the team to seek to maintain its current ranking while continuing to surprise fans in the future season.
Shetland Season 7: What’s Next for Jimmy?
During Shetland Season 6, Jimmy was pulled apart by several challenges, including his father’s dementia and his desire to solve the Galbraith murder. Donna Killick, a convicted murderer, has returned to Shetland in the meantime.
Jimmy was in a foul temper as a result of his mother’s death. At her funeral, he discovered that local hotshot lawyer Alex Galbraith had been brutally killed outside his home. Meanwhile, in the season six finale, fans were shocked when Detective Jimmy Perez and his friend Duncan Hunter were accused of murdering Donna Killick.

DI Tosh According to the Season 6 finale of Shetland, Jimmy Perez’s committed, whip-smart second-in-command is expecting her first child. She had misgivings about becoming a mother shortly earlier in the season. She, too, was torn between her career and being a mother.
After noticing that her sense of smell had become more intense, Tosh went out and bought a pregnancy test kit. As she examined the results, which confirmed her pregnancy, her surprised expression gradually softened into a grin. Season 7 of Shetland will see the consequences of the season 6 finale. As a result, in the coming season, Jimmy will have to prove his innocence.
