Authorities in Sacramento, California, said five people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting at a church on Monday.

At around 5 p.m. on Sunday, a shooter opened fire at a Sacramento church, killing three of his children before turning the weapon on himself. Investigators believe domestic violence played a factor in the deaths of those who were found. Described as an adult, the fifth victim was found dead.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office tweeted, “We are actively monitoring the incident at a Sacramento church and working closely with local law enforcement.” “Our hearts go out to the parishioners and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.”

Nearby roads were closed as a result of the event, and law enforcement is currently investigating.
Due to a shooting, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has a heavy police presence around Howe and Ethan and Howe and Cottage. Please avoid the area. On Howe and Cottage, the command post for the Sheriff’s Office PIO will be placed at the Home Depot.

Sgt. Rodney Grassmann, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said the three victims were all under the age of 15. The incident was restricted to the church’s sanctuary. And the names of individuals engaged have not been revealed, according to Grassmann.

Sheriff’s officials claimed the father had an order of protection against him; the incident occurred during a supervised contact with his children at church, where they routinely met. Morgan Rynor, a KXTV-TV political anchor, tweeted about the incident.

Sheriff Scott Jones told reporters that victim number four was an adult chaperoning the group’s visit when he was killed. It was not known if the victim worked for a church or was a social worker.

The shooter was not supposed to have a gun, Rynor said, and the mother of the three children has been informed.

A “mass casualty shooting event,” according to Sacramento City Councilman Eric Guerra, on Twitter. People in the neighborhood were urged to be on the lookout while local authorities responded.
On Twitter, the California governor called the shooting a “horrible tragedy.” “America’s gun violence continues to escalate, this time in our neighborhood. In a church where children are present.”
“Astonishingly harrowing The victims, their families, and their towns are in our thoughts and prayers. We have a close working relationship with the local police department “Tweeted Newsom.
