Who wrote ‘Wicked Game’ and what is it about?
It was written by Chris Isaak for his 1989 album, Heart Shaped World. ‘Wicked Game’
Before this, he had mostly released 1950s-style rock music and sophisticated R&B on his second album. When ‘Wicked Game’ came out, he was 33 years old.
Isaak has said that the song was inspired by a phone call from a woman who wanted to arrange a casual sexual affair, and is about “what happens when you have a strong attraction to people that aren’t necessarily good for you.”.
According to Isaak, he wrote this song in a matter of minutes after a girl called him and said, “I want to come over and talk to you.” “Talk” in this context was a euphemism for sexual intercourse.
‘I want to talk to you until you can’t stand up anymore,’ she said.'” And I agreed, saying, “OK, I’ll see you there.” My first thought upon hanging up was: ‘Oh my God. I know she’s going to cause some trouble. As far as I know, she’s always been a headache. She’s a bit of a rogue, to say the least. This is what I’m doing, even though my life is in danger.’
It’s also in Wicked Game that I wrote the line, ‘the world is on fire and no one can save me but you.'” As soon as I started thinking about it, I had a song written by the time she came over to my house. And I’m pretty sure she was pissed off because the song was making me even more excited! Was like, ‘Oh my gosh! You’re stunning, baby. Take a listen to the music instead!
