In 2017, “True to the Game” opened as the No. 1 independent movie, earning back half the film’s budget in just the first weekend (via Broadway World) even though it only opened on 419 screens.
Despite some less-than-sparkling reviews, per The New York Times, a sequel seemed like a no-brainer — and since the movie was based on an originally self-published book series by Teri Woods, there was plenty of material for a new installment.
“True to the Game 2: Gena’s Story” was released in fall 2020 and — like its predecessor — also made over $1 million overall despite being in less than 300 theaters during pandemic times, according to Box Office Mojo, although it also debuted on streaming services not long after. Now, that sequel is being followed by a third movie in short order.

What is the release date of True to the Game 3?
Early on, there was a rumour that “True to the Game 3” would come out in theatres in the U.S. on August 13, 2021. That would have been less than a year after November 2020, when the first sequel came out.
In January, the movie’s producer Manny Halley said on Instagram that the movie would be out in theatres and on streaming services on May 28. Even that date would have been a delay, though. He said at the time that he was “putting the finishing touches” on the project, but he hasn’t given a new release date since.

The August 13 date came and went, and now crowd-sourced sites like IMDb are saying that the movie will come out on February 11, 2022. This date is not official and has not been confirmed.
It’s also not clear if the movie will be available on streaming services, since the last one came out just a few days after the first one. The movie’s audience would grow if it came out on video-on-demand, though, since it will probably only be shown in a few theatres around the country.

Fox in the first two movies of the trilogy. It doesn’t look like she will be in the third movie.
David Wolfgang is in charge of making the movie. He also worked on “Dutch,” another movie based on a book by Woods. But there is still a lot about “True to the Game 3” that we don’t know.
Even though the movie is supposed to come out in a few months, marketing hasn’t started yet, and the Twitter page and website are still about the last project. We hope that changes and that we find out a lot more in the coming months.
What is the plot of True to the Game 3?
The “True to the Game” movies are about a young woman from Philadelphia named Gena. She tries to live a quiet life with her grandmother Gah-Git until she meets drug dealer Quadir and gets involved in his world.
The events of the first movie make it look like Quadir is dead. In the second movie, Gena tries to put her life back together by moving to L.A., but rival gang leader Jerrell decides to follow her to get Quadir’s money.
At the end of “True to the Game 2,” there were some loose plot threads that this new movie should tie up. Most importantly, Gena is saved by Quadir, who everyone thought was dead. According to AMC’s summary of the movie, Quadir gives her three days to go to Philadelphia and check on her cousin Bria and her boyfriend Gah-Git.
The feds are putting the pieces together, and corrupt cops are running free on the streets. Also, Bria’s boyfriend Saleem can’t get in touch with Jerrell, and it looks like someone in the crew is telling on them. Before Quadir and Gena can start a new life together, they have to get away from Jerrell and deal with some trouble, like being chased by an unknown killer.
There’s a little bit of a soap opera feel to this story. But if the story turns out like the book, it should have a lot of action and a good ending for fans of Quadir and Gena’s relationship and the whole series.
