Two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani hit his first Grand Slam in either his MLB or Nippon Professional Baseball career on Monday night as the Los Angeles Angels won their fifth straight game with an 11-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays (box score).
Against the Texas Rangers on April 15, Shohei Ohtani, who had a.235/.302/.383 (104 OPS+) line with two home runs, hit a pair of long balls.

In the sixth inning of Monday night’s game, Ohtani and Mike Trout both hit back-to-back home runs. Ohtani and Trout both hit solo home runs to give the Angels a 6-1 advantage.. On his second home run, Ohtani hit an 11-3 Grand Slam, giving the Angels an insurmountable lead.
Ohtani’s first home run had an exit velocity of 109.4 mph and a distance of 407 feet, according to Statcast. For the record, his second home run had an estimated 413 foot travel distance and exit velocity of 109.5 mph.
The Angels’ offensive outburst included two home runs and five RBI from Shohei Ohtani. The Angels took an early lead thanks to a three-run home run by Jared Walsh and another from Mike Trout.
The Angels have an overall record of 20-11. At midnight, they had a half-game advantage over the Houston Astros because they had been off on Monday. This means the Angels will take a 1-0 lead into Tuesday’s game.
There will be a third game of the series against the Rays tonight. First up for Houston is a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
Ohtani, by the way, will start on the mound in Wednesday’s game. He’ll pitch against Tampa Bay’s bright young left-hander Shane McClanahan, who’s poised to make a name for himself in the American League.
