A Discovery of Witches season 4 is not happening — but a spinoff might

Let’s start with the bad news: There will almost definitely be no fourth season of A Discovery of Witches. Sky One in the UK and AMC Plus in the United States have already announced that the show’s third season will be it is last. Similarly, Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy has one book per season – one for each season.

As a historian and a non-practicing witch, Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) finds a magical spellbook at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. A geneticist and vampire, Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), comes to her house once she discovers her findings. During their investigation of the book, they begin to fall in love. Their collaboration, however, unleashes a slew of new threats.

Fans on both sides of the Atlantic are raving about the show. Producing a show for a limited number of seasons and then extending the run is not unprecedented. It wouldn’t be the first time an adaptation has strayed from the source material in such a manner.
A fourth and possibly fifth season for A Discovery of Witches could work, as could a spinoff of Gallowglass. Let’s look into these things.

A Discovery of Witches Season 3 ending, explained

Benjamin (Jacob Ifan), the son of Matthew, is torturing him, so Diana sets off for Poland to rescue him. Satu (Malin Buska), an unfriendly witch, challenges Diana in a duel, but Diana prevails and ties her.

She kills Benjamin with a bow and arrow she makes with her magic. Matthew is transported back to Sept Tours, where Ysabeau heals him of his wounds (Lindsay Duncan).
The Book of Life teaches Diana that daemon DNA is the secret to everything. The reason he suffers blood fury is because of it. As a result of the depletion of daemon DNA, vampires’ lifetimes have been slashed and witches’ powers have diminished. It’s the Covenant itself, which separates creatures, that’s put them in peril.

All of Diana’s secrets are revealed in front of the congregation. Witches, vampires, demons, and humans, according to her, are all intertwined and hence should get married. The Congregation chooses to abrogate the Covenant and elect daemon Agatha as their new leader, over the protests of vampire Gerbert (Trevor Eve).

After the ceremony, Diana and Matthew celebrate with family and friends at Sept Tours.

A Discovery of Witches season 4: Plot ideas

It’s impossible to know what would happen if the fourth season of A Discovery of Witches were to be produced, but what would it be about? Diana and Matthew’s search for the Book of Life have come to a conclusion.

A rumor has it that Harkness’ upcoming novel The Serpent’s Mirror will be the inspiration for season 4. Diana and Matthew return to Sept Tours with the intention of settling down, but Diana learns something unexpected regarding Queen Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne while digging through the archives. By digging into her husband’s past, Diana uncovers the truth about what happened in November 1558, when Matthew was a vampiric double agent.

A Discovery of Witches: Gallowglass spinoff

A fourth season, on the other hand, does not appear likely. A Discovery of Witches spin-off is a better bet than this (or several).

Matthew Whitmore’s vampire son Marcus Whitmore is the focus of Harkness’s fourth book set in the All Souls universe, Time’s Convert. It takes place both in the present day and during the American Revolution. Marcus, a vampire who was first converted in the 18th century, falls in love with Phoebe Taylor, a human two centuries later. Her metamorphosis into a vampire will be just as difficult as Matthew’s when he was originally sired by him.

Two more All Souls novels are in the works, one of which will focus on Gallowglass. Previously, actor Steven Cree, who plays the heroic vampire warrior, said he would be interested in returning to reprise his role in a spinoff.

“I’d be all for more Gallowglass,” says the fan “Telling Digital Spy, he said “I love the character of Gallowglass. There have been times when it’s seemed like he’s playing two different roles, one of which is an Elizabethan rock ‘n’ roll vampire and the other a motorcycle-riding vampire.”

It’s also been reported by the Radio Times, ” “Gallowglass is the stuff of legends. At least eight centuries old. And he’s a fantastic character, as well.”
