Apple has just announced the 10th generation iPad, but it isn’t a very faithful follow-up to last year’s entry-level iPad. The new iPad is thinner, with flat sides and a larger 10.9-inch 2360x1640px IPS LCD with 500 nits, as expected. It’s essentially an iPad Air (2022) sans the M1 processor.
Instead, the A14 Bionic chip in the 10th generation iPad includes a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.
The tablet comes in Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow colours, as well as 64GB and 256GB capacities, as well as Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 5G models. That is the quicker Wi-Fi 6.
The iPad 10th generation switches to USB-C and supports the first-generation Apple Pencil. However, if you read the fine print, you’ll notice that the Pencil uses Lightning, so you’ll need a USB-C to Lightning adapter (which comes in the box). The adapter will be sold separately for $9.
The 12MP f/2.4 122-degree ultrawide front camera on the iPad 10th generation is landscape-oriented. It can fit more people in the frame and supports Smart HDR 3, 1080p video at 60 frames per second, and extended dynamic range at 30 frames per second. On the other end of the spectrum is a 12MP f/1.8 AF main camera with 4K video.
Apple has created a Magic Keyboard Folio for the new iPad that connects via the Smart Connector and magnetically attaches. It comes with a kickstand and a trackpad. The keyboard will cost $249/€299/INR 24,900 and will supplement the iPad’s capabilities.
The Apple iPad 10th generation is now available for pre-order and will ship on October 26 in 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the market.
A 64GB Wi-Fi-only model starts at $449/€579/INR 44,900. That’s a significant price increase over last year’s entry-level model, but thankfully, Apple is still selling it for $329/€429/INR 33,900.
