Young died on October 8 in Los Angeles, according to his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, who spoke to the New York Times on Wednesday. There was no explanation. He was 83.

Young has been in a number of critically regarded films and television shows, including “Chinatown,” “Once Upon a Time in America,” and “The Sopranos.”
But he was most remembered for his role as Paulie Pennino in six “Rocky” films. Young, who was small, paunchy, and balding, was the type of performer who always seemed to play middle-aged no matter his age.
In 1976’s “Rocky,” Paulie is an aggressive, foul-mouthed meat packer who abuses his sister Adrian (Talia Shire), with whom he shares a small apartment in Philadelphia. He chastises the shy, meek Adrian for initially refusing to go on a Thanksgiving night date with his buddy and coworker Rocky Balboa, and he ruins a turkey she has in the oven.
The picture became a success, topping the box office for the year and making Stallone a star, who paid tribute to Young on Instagram on Wednesday night.
