Murray Melvin was a well-known English actor who worked alongside notable people such as Joan Littlewood, Ken Russell, and Stanley Kubrick. He was born on August 10, 1932, in St. Pancras, London.
In addition to his great performing career, he wrote two books, The Art of Theatre Workshop (2006) and The Theatre Royal, A History of the Building (2009). Melvin went on to become the head prefect despite quitting his North London secondary school at the age of fourteen because he struggled with fractions. He attributed his success to his well-combed hair and clean fingernails.
After finishing school, he began working as an office boy for a travel agency on Oxford Street. Melvin’s parents assisted in the establishment of a youth club in Hampstead, which was funded by the Co-operative Society, of which they were long-standing members. Melvin was the most enthusiastic member of the youth club’s drama section.
