‘Real steel’ 2: Release date, Cast and crew and Plot!

For the constantly hopeful, Hollywood is a never-say-never paradise. I know how badly a sequel to ‘Real Steel,’ a Robot-Rocky film with a heartbeat and a father-son bond in the middle, is needed. It’s in the works, and that’s pretty much all we’ve heard about the sequel for the past decade, even though it’s been over two months.

Let’s face it, making a Hollywood sequel isn’t as difficult as it once was, with franchises being established on mediocre material left, right, and center. And, with so many sequels out there, I can see how difficult it must be for fans of the first film to keep up with expectations, especially today, nine years after the first film was released when there were still outspoken fans debating the need for a sequel. That, however, transports me back to the days of the film’s 2011 debut, when it came as a complete surprise to every single one of us who went into the theatre with minimal expectations and out with a smile on our faces.

The film exceeded everyone’s expectations, blending futuristic science-fiction with a well-constructed plot, well-written actors, true passion, and fantastic music, despite the fact that it was a robot boxing movie.

Surprisingly, the one scene in this film that stays with me is when Jackman is driving over his truck at sunset and Alexi Murdock sings ‘All My Days.’ In honor of that, I genuinely hope that the entire world conspires for the cause of a ‘Real Steel’ sequel, but until then, here’s what we know about the rumored sequel that has been in the works for quite some time.

The plot of Real Steel 2!

To begin, I’ll simply state that, despite the passage of time, there hasn’t been a complete rejection of a sequel to the conversations. Nobody connected with the project has stated that a sequel will not be made, with director Shawn Levy also stating that he and Jackman are working on and hope for a satisfactory sequel to the story.

“We’d better make it happen soon,” says the narrator, since while things have been going well so far, a single film franchise stands a good chance of generating interest when a sequel is released after a decade.

Moving on to the plot, the first film, which was set in the year 2020, ended with Max and Charlie reconciling as father and son, and Atom, who had technically lost the war, being crowned the people’s champion. The sequel should pick up after the real-time period that has passed since the first film was released, as it would make little sense to put the picture even five years from then (2025), and because the actors who played Charlie and Max in the original film have aged significantly since then.

The cast of Real Steel 2!

Hugh Jackman has been vocal about how much he adores this picture, so we can reasonably assume that he, along with Dakota Goyo, would love to reprise their roles as Charlie and Max. Both Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie were busy with the MCU and the latter, more so for Netflix, but I expect that they would all love to reprise their roles if and when the sequel happens.

The crew of Real Steel 2!

Shawn Levy has already revealed that he’s been working on a script behind the scenes for as long as he can remember, and he’d love to return to the show as a producer. The more than 10-year gap between the two films also means that, except for Levy, no other technicians are expected to work on the sequel.

Release date of Real Steel 2!

It’s simply a shame that fans have been waiting for nine years, but based on the current sequel prospects, I’d guess there’s more in store for them. Even if Real Steel 2 is released next year or so, 2022 is the most likely release date.

Real Steel 2 Talks Are Finally Happening with Hugh Jackman Says, Director Shawn Levy

Real Steel 2 is currently in the works. Real Steel, the boxing robot drama starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Shawn Levy, will celebrate its tenth anniversary in October. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a box office success, though perhaps not as much as Disney had hoped. A sequel was never developed, maybe because it fell short of expectations, and the world seemed to have moved on.

Real Steel acquired a new audience over a decade later when it was released on Netflix during the pandemic last year. Perhaps the film was a little ahead of its time, as it continues to be popular following its streaming distribution. When Real Steel became one of Netflix’s top ten most-watched shows, Levy knew there was more potential there. In a new interview with Inverse, Levy admits that he’s spoken with Jackman about creating a sequel to Real Steel.

“It’s been on my mind and in discussion a lot recently. Maybe it’s because it was one of Netflix’s top trending and most-viewed films when they started streaming it during the shutdown. Which led to Hugh and I reminiscing about ‘What is this Real Steel craze?’ ‘Well, wait, we love it that much, too,’ it’s like this epiphany. That’s how much we’ve always adored it. Even though it feels like the window of opportunity has closed, it’s one of those “never say never” situations. It appears that the fan base and viewers have not dissipated. So, who can say?”

Shawn Levy is the director of Real Steel. The screenplay was written by John Gatins based on a story by Dan Gilroy and Jeremy Leven. Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, and Kevin Durand co-starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the film. In a world where humans have been supplanted by robots in boxing, Jackman portrays a former fighter who believes he’s discovered the next champion in an abandoned machine.

It was announced in April that Vin Diesel would star in a Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots film. This prompted Real Steel supporters to demand a sequel instead, demonstrating that the film’s popularity has only grown since its initial release. The timing appears to be ideal for a sequel to Real Steel if the fans want it and the original director and star are both interested, but the choice will be contingent on Disney detecting the trend as well.

For the time being, viewers can anticipate the release of Levy’s next film, Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds as a minor guy in a video game world who has a chance to become a hero. According to reports, Hugh Jackman will make a cameo appearance in the film. For more of Jackman, the beloved actor will star in Reminiscence, a new sci-fi film from Lisa Joy, which will be released this month. Free Guy will be released on August 13 in theatres and on HBO Max, while Reminiscence will be released on August 20 in theatres and on HBO Max.
