A reveal trailer for a special version of Marvelous Games’ farm RPG Rune Factory 3 was one of the exciting announcements made during the recent Nintendo Direct. The company also hinted that a new entry in the Rune Factory series will be released in the future, which will likely pique the interest of farming RPG fans.
Marvelous Games has created a special version of one of its titles for the second time in the Rune Factory series. Rune Factory 4, which was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS, was ported to the Nintendo Switch via the Rune Factory 4 Special edition. Given how long game development typically takes, re-releasing an older title to allow time for the team to develop a new one while satisfying the community’s demand for a Rune Factory game appears to be quite strategic.
Marvelous Games debuted a short video trailer for Rune Factory 3 Special during the September 2022 Nintendo Direct. In comparison to the original DS version, players will receive fully updated, high-definition graphics and new 3D models for all of the game’s characters, according to the footage.
The gameplay shown in the trailer included interactions between characters in Rune Factory 3 Special, dungeon crawling and battle action, and the remaster’s farming aspect. Unfortunately, the trailer only revealed that the remaster will be available in 2023, so fans will have to wait for official word on the game’s exact release date.
The Rune Factory 3 Special trailer also revealed a new mode for those who want to spend more time in the game with their chosen partner. This feature was also added to the Nintendo Switch version of Rune Factory 4. Marvelous Games teased a new Rune Factory title coming in the future at the end of the trailer. Though the video did not reveal any important details, fans will most likely regard this as the sixth title in the series, or “Rune Factory 6.”
Even though Rune Factory 3 Special has not yet been released, the player base can still enjoy other games in the farming RPG series. Both Rune Factory 4 Special and Rune Factory 5 are available on a variety of platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, Steam, PlayStation 4, and others. Many in the community are likely to want to retrace their steps in the old Nintendo DS title, so hopefully Marvelous Games will share more information about the remaster soon.
