Cory Fleming Faces 20-Year State Prison Sentence for Financial Crimes
On October 8, 2021, the South Carolina Supreme Court suspended Fleming’s law license. He was later charged in connection with Alex Murdaugh’s misappropriation of client settlement funds.
According to the charging documents, Fleming supported Alex Murdaugh in stealing settlement payments meant for the family of Alex Murdaugh’s maid, who died in 2018.
Gloria Satterfield, the housekeeper at the Murdaugh mansion, died in an alleged accident on February 26, 2018. The estate of Satterfield, Fleming, and the insurance carrier involved in the action eventually reached an arrangement.
Before Fleming was suspended, the Satterfield family’s attorneys, Eric Bland and Ronnie Richter, issued a statement.
“Mr. Fleming and his firm agreed that the Estate will be paid back all legal fees and expenses Mr. Fleming and his law firm received from the $4,300,000 they recovered for the Estate in connection with the claims asserted against Alex Murdaugh for the death of Gloria Satterfield,” the statement read.
