‘Dead to Me’ Season 3: Everything We Know So Far(New Report)

Dead to Me season 3 is still progressing along at Netflix despite a few setbacks in production. Filming was delayed in August 2021 and again in late 2021 but is seemingly winding down. Here’s an updated what we know so far about Dead to Me season 3 which is anticipated to debut on Netflix at some point in 2022.

Please note: this preview was first published in May 2020 and has been updated constantly to reflect new developments. It was last updated on February 2022.

For those out of the loop, Dead to Me is a Netflix Original black-comedy series developed by Liz Feldman (who inked an overall contract with Netflix off the heels of season 2 of Dead to Me) (who signed an overall deal with Netflix off the back of season 2 of Dead to Me). The sitcom has swiftly become one of the most-watched comedy programs on Netflix, having gathered a viewership of over 30 million globally during the first season. Dead to Me has also been a strong attraction during awards seasons too with previous seasons taking up 5 Primetime Emmys.

The soul of the series belongs to the chemistry between Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. On-screen together they have been electric, making for some absolutely brilliant comedy, and heart-wrenching drama.

Has Netflix renewed Dead to Me for the third season?

Netflix’s official renewal has been announced. Updated: 06/07/2020 (Last Updated)

The third and final season of Dead to Me was announced by Netflix just two months after the second season began.

Dead to Me has been renewed for a second season, and Netflix’s most popular tv series lists often highlight the show. On the day of its release, it occupied the #1 spot on the US charts.

Christina Applegate expressed her gratitude for the show’s return on social media, writing: “I shall miss these ladies. Because of this, we decided that this was the greatest approach to wrap up the stories of these women. Sincerely, thank you to all of you. When it’s safe to do so, we’ll get back to work.”

Believing that Netflix’s cancellation curse had struck the show, fans should know that the show was always meant to be a one-seasoner and not go on for seasons and seasons. This would not be “a long long-running show,” according to Liz Feldman in an interview.

Feldman explained more in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying:

It was clear to me that I wanted this show to be short-lived from the beginning. I’m familiar with how things work at Netflix. Having a show that lasts five, six, or seven seasons is extremely uncommon for them. But it’s a rare occurrence, so don’t get your hopes up. Halfway through filming season two, I was struck by a brilliant notion that would be a fitting conclusion to the show.

It’s a good thing that Liz Feldman will be staying with Netflix after Dead to Me is over. As a result of the total arrangement she signed, Netflix will receive all of the creator’s future projects. However, no other projects have been revealed as of yet.

Dead to Me season 3 production status & potential release window

As soon as the contract was renewed, the writing process began, and it took many months before the finished screenplays were sent to Netflix for review and approval.

“To my partners,” Liz Feldman tweeted on September 18th, 2020, announcing that the third season has been accepted.

Season 3 is expected to begin filming in January 2021, according to CBS Studios. Previously, it was stated that production will begin in December 2020 at the very latest.

ProductionWeekly announced in January 2021 that filming will begin later that month. However, the global pandemic uncertainty caused the dates to be further postponed.

As of May 10, 2021, filming had already begun, and it was slated to wrap up on August 2, 2021. Actress Christina Applegate posted a photo of a Dead to Me chair on her Instagram account, seemingly confirming that filming on the horror flick has begun.

As a result of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, Christina Applegate announced in August 2021 that she had been diagnosed some months before. Since then, we hadn’t heard anything about the show returning to production.

There were multiple incidences of COVID-19 in 2021, thus filming was halted for the year, Deadline reported in December 2021. Deadline reports that the final three weeks of filming will take place in the early months of 2022.

In a post on Instagram on February 11th, 2022, Diana Maria Riva announced that filming for season 3 has wrapped up (at least when it comes to her parts).

Her post was accompanied by a caption that read:

“And with that, Det. Perez comes to an end of his series. Thank you for making this possible… I can’t wait to see how this narrative concludes for all of you. Love to my #DTM family!!

No word yet on when season 3 will be available on Netflix.

Christina Applegate responded to a fan on January 14th, suggesting that season 3 will be released soon.

The Society Season 2: Is The The Society Coming Back For Season 2 On Netflix?

What to expect from Dead to Me season 3

The aftermath of a Crash

At the crossroads, Jen and Judy’s automobile was struck by a vehicle driven by Ben, who was on his way to identify the corpse of his dead brother Steve. The alcoholic, who had been drinking whiskey, ran a stop sign after ignoring it.

It’s not known if Ben saw Jen and Judy after he hit them, or if they saw him before he drove away.

To put it another way, Ben is likely going to turn to another bottle because of this and since he has to go to identify his brother’s body on the way.

Jen and Judy are still alive, but it’s not apparent if they’ve incurred any injuries. If Ben was the one behind the wheel, we can expect an awkward exchange between the two of them.

It is revealed that Judy had written to Charlie.

For some reason, Charlie finds the letter that his mother Jen had written to Judy in Judy’s room after searching for some pot in her room.

It’s not known if Charlie actually read the letter, but if he did, he’d know that Judy was involved in his father’s hit-and-run death. If he was. To say nothing of his mother’s remorse for the murder of Steve.

As a suspect in Steve’s disappearance, he would be cleared if he had this evidence.

Because of Charlie’s history of disobedience, Judy and Jen are fearful that he will either blackmail them or use his father’s death as an excuse to cause them harm.

Is Jen going to be found out?

Jen had confessed to Detective Perez that she had killed Steve and was ready to face the repercussions of her actions. Perez let her go after they couldn’t find the body and had a heart-to-heart conversation about it.

Judy gave Nick a bag of evidence to use against Steve and Steve’s father, who are both suspects in the case. She had hoped that Nick would be able to utilize the evidence to defend Jen, but when she saw that Jen hadn’t publicly confessed, she had to go back and change her strategy.

After Perez had Jen confess to him and Steve’s death was recovered in a cemetery, there are numerous threads of the web that might lead back to Jen’s imprisonment.

The series will continue to explore the nuances of friendship and grief, however, she is delighted to confirm. As a result, it will continue its efforts to “normalize female rage.”
