Jessy Schram Talks ‘Chicago Med’ and Her Upcoming Film ‘Country at Heart’!

The Hallmark Channel will feature a familiar face for Chicago Med fans this weekend.

Country at Heart, starring Jessy Schram, premieres tomorrow (Saturday, October 3rd).

This past summer, I had the pleasure of speaking with Schram about her work as Dr. Hannah Asher on Chicago Med and the upcoming Hallmark Channel feature.

In her first interview, Schram explained how she ended herself on the popular NBC show.

This all-women surf trip was my one exception to the rule that I never take vacations.” At the time, I couldn’t believe how many facets there were to this role; I was overjoyed. An interesting surgeon, but someone who is also struggling with substance abuse in a complex character. Furthermore, she remembered: “And that night, I was due to fly to Nicaragua.”

The weekend went by without my hearing anything about the tape I made of myself. As if that wasn’t enough to deal with, on Monday while vacationing in Nicaragua, I received a phone call from the director who informed me that he and the rest of the cast and crew loved me, but that he had only given me two scenes. Let us know if you have anything more that we should be looking for from you.'”

That meant she had to figure out a means to record herself while she was away. “I didn’t bring a hairdryer with me.’ I didn’t bring any make-up with me on this trip. For the most professional thing I had, one of the girls offered me her sleepwear, “Schram stated.” As a result of my prior experience and my audition, the producers felt confident enough in me to give it a shot. As a result, I returned to Chicago early from Nicaragua to begin work on the character of Dr. Hannah Asher.”

For the actress, the part on Chicago Med was an opportunity to revisit a place she had lived in for years.

“I grew raised in Chicago until I was 18 years old. That’s where I was born and reared,” she remarked. As a ten-year-old kid working in commercials and other odd jobs, I got my start in the business.” To be able to return to my hometown and work with crews from Chicago — that’s very fulfilling because that’s where I began. All my relatives live in that same house also. “It’s a blast to be a part of my hometown and to be associated with One Chicago, which is such a big issue in Chicago. I never thought I’d have this opportunity,” she says.

It was interesting to hear Schram talk about what it was like to join the cast of a program that had already been on for several seasons.

‘It was scary.'” In other words, whenever you join in on a set, especially a well-established one. Getting on stage is scary, but getting on the one that’s been running for five years is even scarier. In a surgery scene, I’m still flubbing the phrases and am unable to put on my gloves. For the past five years, they’d been able to do just that. While this cast and crew were welcoming, they were also quite patient with me and never made me feel like I couldn’t learn anything.”

As a result of Dr. Asher’s battle with addiction, Schram had to put in a lot of extra effort in training for the character.

As a result, “It’s been rewarding, but also challenging. Since she is one of the best gynecological surgeons in the world and she is addicted to something, she had to learn a lot about it, whether it was through documentaries, by talking to therapists about addiction, or just by fully comprehending that part and what that means when someone is addicted to something, as well as this other aspect of since she’s one of the best gynecological surgeons in the world,” she said.

“It’s also really difficult when the scripts arrive. This is something I’ve discussed with our executive producer when they come on, as well as with the writers and director, as there are so many different faces to my character and what she is dealing with at that time, and so many different ways we can play it,” Schram said.

On the set, we’re continuously talking about where we are at this very moment.” And who are we portraying as Hannah right now? Addiction also transforms you into a different person. So, what are the ingredients in this concoction? Is she in any kind of difficulty right now? Is there anything else you’d like to know about her?

All of these factors are also relevant to the audience’s ability to trust Hannah and the impact her actions may have on people around her.

So many people are furious with Hannah when it comes to fans because of her addiction. That’s something I found fascinating when it came to this character.” They’re only speculating about whether or not she’s a good person based on what she’s doing. But, hold on a second, you say. She’s not like that. This is the fixation. And I think we’re beginning to see a little bit of who she is at the heart. It’s clear that she has a wonderful heart, and her only goal is to do good.

There are so many different topics that this character touches on, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out,” Schram said.

Will Halstead, who has been eager to help Hannah since the beginning, was also on the list of topics we discussed. Schram explained why the two were so attracted to each other.

In every episode, Nick [Gehlfuss] is like, who are you going to save this episode??” he says. “Yeah,” he responded, “that is Will, my character.” It’s time for me to save and help others. This is a situation in which two characters need each other’s help, so we have a lot of fun making jokes about it on set.

There is a strong bond between them and they are working through it as a team. She also emphasized that it may be a risky mix. Despite this, “I believe that the two of them have a real respect for each other, regardless of the potential for conflict.”

During the interview, Schram expressed excitement about her forthcoming Hallmark Channel feature, which premieres this weekend.

Among her Hallmark credits are “A Royal New Year’s Eve,” “The Birthday Wish,” “Road to Christmas,” and “Harvest Moon,” among many others. Next, in Country at Heart, Shram plays singer-songwriter Shayna, who is about to give up on her career because she is having trouble making ends meet.

To begin with, when we first see her in the movie, she’s a little unsure of herself. For her entire life, she’s been striving to make her mark in the industry, but every door has been shut. Consequently, she’s taking another look at whether pursuing her ambition is worth it. Because of this, “she takes a break,” Schram said. “She travels to assist out with her father’s music festival.”

The songwriter Niall Matter and the rising country star Lucas Bryant are introduced to her as she takes a step back.” With their inclusion, she can go even further into both her songwriting and her personal development. Love for music, friendship, and romance all feature prominently in the film.

Schram is also a talented musician, and she gets to show it off in the film. “Music that I get to perform in the movie will be heard by you. The fact that I was able to perform and play with this was a huge part of why I fell in love with it in the first place. In addition to finding love, this isn’t a one-stop-shop. Getting closer to the heart and the music isn’t just a backbone, it’s the driving force, which I just adore.

Additionally, she emphasized that while this video contains many old Hallmark Channel elements, it is also original. Despite this, “it still has the hopeful feel and it gets you everything you want in the end, but it’s a little bit different in the sense that it has a little more dynamic going than just the love relationship.”

This is a time when we could all use a little lightheartedness, and that’s why Schram enjoys working on these projects. Fans are what make these endeavors so enjoyable for her, she said.

Because of this, they can keep their spirits up and perhaps heal a little bit via the lightheartedness of it all. Because I am well aware of the fervor these films inspire among their devoted followers, I find myself eagerly anticipating their release. Because of this, I feel good about offering them something I know they’ll enjoy.
