Ray Stevenson, a well-known actor best known for his roles as the villainous British governor in RRR and Volstagg in the Thor films, passed away at 58. He was also known for his role as a main antagonist in the upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka. It was confirmed to Variety by Mr. Stevenson’s publicist that he passed away on Sunday, May 21.

As the reports from BBC say, he was taken to the hospital while filming on the Italian island of Ischia. However, the official cause of his de@th has not been disclosed. The news of his passing was made public just four days before he would have turned 59.

RRR’s official social media handle also confirmed the news, writing, ”What shocking news for all of us on the team! Rest in peace, Ray Stevenson. You will stay in our hearts forever, SIR SCOTT.” You can see their Tweet below.

Director SS Rajamouli also tweeted his condolences in a heartfelt note. ”Shocking… I can’t believe this news. Ray brought so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland 1964, the actor moved to England at eight. According to Variety, Mr. Stevenson began his career in the 1990s by starring in television series before moving on to action roles in Hollywood films. In Paul Greengrass’ 1998 drama The Theory of Flight, opposite Helena Bonham Carter and Kenneth Branagh, he first appeared on the big screen.
