“I’d like $12,000 cash out of my checking account,” read the message attached to the withdrawal form. He was dressed in all black, with sunglasses, a green sweatshirt, and an all-white face mask, as he approached the counter at the bank. There was, however, an error in judgment by the bank teller, who mistakenly triggered an alert and contacted her supervisor, who immediately called the police.

To that point, four Atlanta PD officers arrived at the bank, one of them was filming the situation with a police dashcam. They were joined by Ryan’s coworkers, who had been waiting outside in a car for him.

The police released the director and his friends after validating his name and Bank of America account.

“We profoundly regret that this incident occurred,” a Bank of America spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. We’re sorry to Mr. Coogler; that never should have happened.
