Why Is The Late Late Show Ending
James Corden left The Late Late Show because he “always knew it was an adventure” and “never considered it the final destination.” James told Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show about his ‘easy’ but also the unexpected decision to leave, “Look, it’s not easy in any way to walk away from something that is so, I mean, I’ll never work in a better environment than the one I work in now. Leaving the show had nothing to do with a lack of enjoyment. I love it.
“But the truth is it became a very easy decision,” he continued, “because I always knew it was an adventure, and I never considered it the final destination.” James outlined when his son made him realize there was more to life than working Sundays while filming Mammals for Prime Video last year.
He explained, “One day I was filming on a Sunday and I came downstairs, it was about 6 a.m. and my son (Max), who was 10 at the time, was sat on the stairs and he said, ‘Are you working today?’ and I said, ‘I am,’ and he said, ‘I thought, well it’s Sunday,’ and I said, ‘I know, buddy, but this schedule’s just all over the place. We just got to get it done because we only have a tiny amount of time before we have to go back and do the show,’ and his face just kind of dropped,”
James, who has three children with his wife Jules – son Max, 12, daughter Carey, eight, and daughter Charlotte, five – recalled, “I got in the car and called my wife Jules and said, ‘I’ve realized, best case scenario, we have six more summers where Max even remotely wants to be around us, and I cannot waste another one.'” James Corden and his two children, Carey and Max, observe a basketball game. Regarding his final performance, James admitted, “I will be a complete mess. I will shed copious tears.” But he knew it would be bittersweet, he added, “But I will know in my heart that the best thing for me and my family is to put down roots in London.” And it feels absolutely perfect in every way.
