The third season of The Mandalorian now has a trailer.
After making its debut behind closed doors at Star Wars Celebration, the trailer for season 3 of The Mandalorian has now been released. With this film, not only do we finally get to see Mandalore in real action, but we also get to see Mando and Baby Yoda reunited for the first time, and they have lots of adorable moments together. The Armorer has reprimanded Din Djarin for taking off his helmet, and Bo-Katan has some choice words for him. Not only that, but Babu Frik (or at least a creature with similar characteristics) makes an appearance. A second, even shorter clip was shown at Star Wars Celebration.
In Brazil, more video was shown off-stage at the annual Comic-Con event. An extended trailer featuring Grogu using the Force to shove someone out of a cave was shown, as reported by Collider(opens in new tab). Andor, home to the “monkey lizards,” a planet where the Mandalorians and the droids from the prequels worked together, is also alleged to have appeared in the clip. In addition, Bo-Katan reminds Mando that his future is dishonorable because of his decision to skip the Mandalorian conflict.
In January of 2023, a new trailer for season 3 of The Mandalorian was released, providing even more details on what to expect. Order 66 and Salacious B. Crumb were just two of the many Easter eggs hidden throughout the most recent redesign. In the trailer, it is made very apparent that Din Djarin will be traveling to Mandalore in search of forgiveness.
Season 3 of The Mandalorian’s cast
In contrast to popular belief, the cast of The Mandalorian season 3 is not frozen in carbonite. Both Grogu and Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin will be back for more. Actor Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon, has confirmed in an interview with EW(opens in new tab) that the character will have a larger role in the third film. “I feel that next season you’ll get to know me better. You may expect to encounter Moff Gideon rather frequently.” Whoa, that’s a lot of cause for concern.

Carl Weathers announced at Steel City Con that not only would he reprise his role as Greef Karga, but he will also direct once more. As the Darksaber is now in Din’s possession, it seems likely that Katee Sackhoff will reprise her role as Bo-Katan in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, might return, albeit her future following her cameo in The Book of Boba Fett is uncertain and she also has a spin-off in the works. Christopher Lloyd, known for his role in the classic film Back to the Future, has also reportedly joined the cast. Mercedes Varnado, aka Sasha Banks, has stated she will not reprise her role as Koska Reeves for the upcoming third season.
And unfortunately, Gina Carano’s Cara Dune won’t be making an appearance either. There was widespread agreement that she will play a significant role in the Rangers of the New Republic spinoff. The social media activities of Carano led to Lucasfilm’s decision to terminate her employment. So, she will not be appearing in the next third season of The Mandalorian, and the Rangers of the New Republic spin-off has apparently been scrapped. The new season starts streaming Wednesday on @DisneyPlus.
The character portrayed by Bill Burr, Migs Mayfeld, is another story. A quote from the actor’s interview with Screen Rant (opens in new tab) regarding season 3: “Well, I really do. I was fortunate to work with Jon Favreau and Rick Famuyiwa, the writers of both of the episodes I contributed to, and to feel like I contributed to something that was both large and good. Obviously, I can’t say much, but I will say that I enjoy my time on the show immensely and would like to see it continue.”
Bryce Dallas Howard will direct an episode once again. Her past directing credits include two episodes of The Mandalorian and the acclaimed “Return of the Mandalorian” chapter in The Book of Boba Fett. Season 3 of The Mandalorian will mark the debut of Babu Frik, the hairy little monster from The Rise of Skywalker.
What could possibly happen in the third season of The Mandalorian?
The third season of The Mandalorian will premiere in 2019, and Dave Filoni has already given us a sneak peek. “Many exciting new experiences await. I need to be cautious, so I won’t go into detail, but let it be known that I believe the Force will be with this.” This doesn’t reveal much, but it does sound like vintage Mando. Furthermore, season 3 of The Mandalorian might address a wide variety of storylines. Here is the post on their social media.
Among these, the claim for the Darksaber made by Mando and Bo-Katan in the trailer footage appears to be at the top of the list. Din mistakenly claimed the Mandalorian weapon as his own in Chapter 16 after he defeated Moff Gideon in battle. To take it back from Gideon, Bo-Katan would have to defeat Mando in battle. Sabine Wren’s seemingly carefree transfer of the Darksaber to Bo-Katan in The Clone Wars created a plot hole, although this was resolved in The Book of Boba Fett.
The Armorer thinks Bo-disastrous Katan’s reign as Mandalore’s ruler was caused by the fact that he was given the Darksaber as a gift rather than having to earn it. Even still, it appears that Din is intent on preserving the weapon and employing it in the pursuit of a bounty; he plans to do so after receiving instruction in its usage from the Armorer.
Pascal hinted at his character’s development into a leader in an interview with Total Film, while the Season 3 teaser appears to show him leading a group of Mandalorians. In other words, “he’s hesitant to enter into a leadership position,” if he is. “There’s nothing more intriguing than seeing a character struggle to learn their own limits and identity. The enjoyment from that section has been immense. In addition, I think there are a lot of ways to look up the tone of something like that. Basically, I basically wanted to nail the nuance required for character growth of that sort.”
Katee Sackhoff was more reticent when asked about Bo-reaction Katan’s to the Darksaber’s destruction, but she did comment, “Anytime you have a goal and you don’t succeed, I think you re-evaluate.” Intriguing…
In addition, Jon Favreau has described Din’s quest for atonement when he takes off his helmet in Season 2. As he explained in Entertainment Weekly’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast, “We established in The Book of Boba Fett that there was a potential for the Mandalorian to be rehabilitated because he had transgressed against the Creed by removing his helmet” (opens in new tab).
“Moreover, among his fellow Mandalorians, such is strictly forbidden. In light of our new knowledge, we can assume that there are subsets of the Mandalorian population that follow a different set of laws. Dave [Filoni] and I, as the voice of one of the Mandalorian characters in The Clone Wars, experienced firsthand how diverse the species is; now, these societies are converging on Mandalore, their exiled home world, to try to figure out how they can work together.”
Furthermore, Favreau hinted at Brazil Comic-Con that the upcoming season would be more ambitious than the previous two chapters. The reconciliation of Grogu and Din is also an important story component. In The Book of Boba Fett, Baby Yoda had to decide whether to join the Jedi Order or remain with his father, Papa Mando. It remains to be seen if the youngling has any doubts or if Luke Skywalker plays a larger role in The Mandalorian.
Powers like Grogu’s are likely to remain a significant feature of The Mandalorian’s plot. As Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon, revealed at GalaxyCon, “I am going to get this child, and it’s for a completely different reason than many people assume,” there may be a hint as to why the villain wants to get his hands on Baby Yoda so badly. We want everyone to know that this child has magic powers, is 50 years old, and can see the future, and that this child has the potential to rescue the universe, and we want to reveal this information on this show in the future. That would explain why the Empire is still on the Child’s trail.
Jokingly, Esposito added: “See the murder of this innocent infant. [Cheers] That’s really cool, huh? Although this is undoubtedly incorrect, I must have some hope that I will ultimately prevail.” Let’s hope that doesn’t happen!
The actor has also promised that his antagonist will remain a strong adversary. “He is the ultimate villain, omniscient in his understanding of technology and everything else. Just know that your next encounter with Moff will be very brief “He stated to Metro.co.uk (opens in new tab).
In addition, he makes it plain in the season 2 finale that he has been supplied information from an unknown source throughout the season. It would not be surprising if the new Disney Plus season delves deeper into that connection. Is Thrawn possible? Is there maybe another unknown power broker in the Empire? The teaser for Mando features a massive Star Destroyer, which may be an indication that Gideon has influential allies.
The new season, executive producer Rick Famuyiwa said in the most recent issue of SFX Magazine, will be the “most ambitious” one yet. Every season, you should aim to convey a simple story that resonates with the audience, he explains. “This season has been the most ambitious and the biggest one yet, and while it may have been ridiculous to try to do everything we did, I believe that our motivation was simply a desire to keep telling amazing stories. That elementary bond between Mando and Grogu has always seemed to me to be the bedrock. The scale of the adventures grows, and the heroes you encounter may become as recognizable as Luke Skywalker, but everything is still subservient to the central narrative. That has brought us to greater and greater heights, the highest being this season.”
