Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Recap

Following the thrilling port battle between the surviving Survey Corps members and the Yeagerists in the previous episode, the series returns to Eren and his crew’s first visit to Marley.

With good intentions, the undercover Eldians enter enemy territory. Hange Zoe seeks an alliance with the Subjects of Ymir Protection Group, which will deliver a speech the following day.

When Levi catches a young refugee named Ramzi with Sasha’s purse, the group learns about Marley’s witch hunt for Subjects of Ymir. As the Marleyan crowd gangs up on the child, Levi pretends Ramzi is Sasha’s sibling, giving the entire group enough time to flee the scene.

A Visit To Azumabito’s Home

Levi and the squad visit Azumabito’s home, where she explains that Marley has been cracking down on Subjects of Ymir who have escaped internment camps. This realization dampens their hopes for peace, but Hange remains optimistic about the Protection Group.

The group then attends the next day’s forum, only to be disappointed by the organization’s agenda. Rather than seeking peace among all Eldian members, the speaker seeks assistance for Ymir’s refugee Subjects and further condemns the “island devils” as their true enemy.

Eren leaves the group to plan the surprise attack in Liberio after witnessing the Eldians’ hatred firsthand.

Mikasa, What Did You Say To Eren Before The Party?

Mikasa notices Eren is missing while they are at Azumabito’s house and tracks him down near Ramzi’s community. The Eldian leader is sympathetic to the displaced people, comparing their situation to their own when the titans first attacked.

Eren wonders why Mikasa is so concerned about him now that the two are alone. The question takes her aback and responds frantically that Eren is “family.” While they are not related by blood, Eren saved Mikasa when they were children, and she has since lived with the Yeagers.

One of Ramzi’s elders then interrupts the moment of truth by inviting them to a party. The rest of the team arrives and joins in the celebration, eating and drinking as much as possible. Captain Levi eventually discovers them all passed out in one of the tents and Mikasa sleeping next to Eren.

Later in the episode, the two separately reflect on their complicated relationship. On Eren’s side, Zeke hints that Mikasa might like him enough to “rip apart titans” for him. Mikasa wonders if things would have turned out differently if she had answered Eren’s question differently.

What Is Eren’s Motivation For The Rumbling?

During conversations with allies Floch and Historia, the episode also reveals more details about Eren’s plans and motivations.

Despite joining forces with Yelena and Zeke Yeager for the Eldian euthanasia plan, he makes it clear to Floch that he is simply playing along in order to find the right moment to attack Marley. Eren abandons Zeke’s plan once he gains access to the Coordinate, the universal channel that connects all titans and Subjects of Ymir.

Historia attempts to combat Eren’s destructive plans by addressing the possibility of killing innocent people like his mother. On the other hand, Eren is unfazed by the remark and believes his all-out assault will end the cycle of vengeance between the world and the Indians.

More personally, he sees the Rumbling as the only way to ensure that his friends can “live and be happy.” Season 4, Part 3 of Attack on Titan will premiere on March 4.
