Douglas Mackinnon directed and Neil Gaiman wrote the final episode, The Very Last Day of the Rest of Their Lives. The episode was released in the United Kingdom on February 19, 2020, rather than on May 31, 2019. While Death departs, his companions triumph over war, pollution, and famine. Lord Beelzebub and Gabriel arrive to ensure Adam restarts Armageddon according to God’s Great Plan, but he refuses. Aziraphale goes a step further and wonders if the Great Plan and God’s incomprehensible plan are the same thing. Both parties withdraw because they are unsure. Adam rejects Satan and restores the world, including Aziraphale’s bookstore, Crowley’s Bentley, and the recently lost lives.

When their respective commanders find them guilty of treachery, Aziraphale is sentenced to hellfire, and Crowley is forced to enter a tub of holy water. To everyone’s surprise, both survive. Because they are afraid of what they have become, Heaven and Hell agree to leave Crowley and Aziraphale alone on Earth.

While sitting on a park bench, Aziraphale and Crowley return to their natural bodies. Agnes Nutter’s final prophecy was, “You must choose your faces wisely,” which gave them the key to survival. Anathema receives an updated prophecy book, but she chooses to throw it away and go about her life. Adam keeps his abilities. Madame Tracy and Shadwell intend to retire together in a hamlet outside of London. The series concludes with Aziraphale and Crowley having lunch at the Ritz and toasting “to the world.”
