Is Severide Leaving Chicago Fire Show
Kelly Severide has left Chicago Fire as actor Taylor Kinney takes a leave of absence from the show. Kinney announced earlier this year that he would leave the show to deal with an undisclosed personal matter. In last night’s episode (‘Damage Control,’ airing March 1), the Lieutenant left town to attend “the world’s best arson investigation training program.”
Kinney did not appear in the episode because he had already left when it was filmed. Captain Van Meter (Tim Hopper), the head of the Chicago Fire Department’s Office of Fire Investigation, informed Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker).
A Twitter user posted a Tweet related to the matter. You can see the Tweet below.

Van Meter’s involvement in Severide’s exit was hinted at in an earlier episode (‘Run Like Hell,’ airing February 22) after he received an ominous message hidden from viewers that he shared with his wife, Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).
What Was Bodens Reaction To The News?
While Boden is disappointed by the news, he admits that the training will help the firehouse when Severide returns, whenever that may be. Kinney has played Kelly in Chicago Fire since the show’s inception in 2012. His character has also appeared as a guest on the sister shows Chicago Med and Chicago PD.
Jesse Spencer, another cast member who has been with the show since the beginning, also left the show temporarily. The actor was best known for his role as Captain Matthew Casey in the show, which he left in 2021 after nearly ten years. Variety also confirmed in November that co-creator and co-showrunner Derek Haas would leave the show.
Conclusion: it has been confirmed that Kelly Severide, played by Taylor Kinney, is leaving Chicago Fire due to a personal matter, resulting in his character’s departure from the show. While it may be disappointing for fans of the series, Kinney’s absence allows the writers to explore new storylines and characters. Despite the departures of Kinney and co-showrunner Derek Haas, Chicago Fire remains a beloved and successful series with a dedicated fan base eagerly anticipating the next season.
