Meagan Good Divorce: How The Situation Left Her Completely Devastated

Meagan Good is coming clean about her divorce from DeVon Franklin. The Harlem star reveals in her first ESSENCE solo cover interview that the decision to divorce was not hers, as she discusses the difficulties that resulted from the marriage’s demise.

“It’s nothing that I would have ever chosen, and when I realized that it was happening, I was devastated,” said Good, 41. “I was like, ‘This is me, Lord. I did everything that I could do to the best of my ability. I don’t understand why I did all these things, and then this is my end result.'”

When Did Good Announce Her Divorce?

After nine years of marriage, Good and Franklin announced their divorce in December 2021 and finalized the split in June 2022, just a week before their 10-year anniversary.

Good told ESSENCE She still regards Franklin, 44, as “an incredible and beautiful person,” confirming that neither party was malicious towards the other.

However, once the divorce was announced, some fans questioned the authenticity of their 2017 book The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life and the Life You Love. This, in turn, caused Good to reconsider her own approach to love in the future.

“I struggled with that,” she admits. “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I should be celibate now. I don’t know what I should do.’ I even was at a point early on when I felt, obviously, I still believe in Jesus, but I’m not sure what to believe about anything else anymore.”

Getting A Divorce Was A Difficult Choice For Meagan Good

Good revealed that the divorce was particularly difficult for her because she did not want to follow in the footsteps of her parents, who divorced after ten years of marriage.

“That was rough because my biggest fear was what happened between my mom and my dad would happen to me, which is you’ve been with your husband for 10 years and you break up,” she said. “I would say, ‘I’m never getting divorced. I’m in it forever, good, bad, whatever it is, I’m never going to give up. You’re my person, I’m your person, that’s it.'”

Good Has Started To Accept Situation

In retrospect, Franklin stated that she has no regrets about marrying or divorcing Franklin. “Once I accepted everything, I felt grateful for the time we had together and the beautiful journey,” she continued. “Then there was an excitement. I get to start life all over again, in my prime, with so many incredible things happening in my life and in my career. I get to do this again.”

Good and Franklin met on the set of “Jumping the Broom” in 2011 and married a year later. Their most recent red carpet-appearance was at the 2019 BET Awards.

BET Tweeted a clip of Meagan from their official Twitter handle about how it’s never too late to start over in life. You can see the Tweet below.

“In some ways, I feel like I get to restart my life and have a second chance at whatever comes next. So I’m really enjoying that… I’m not sure what to expect, which is kind of amazing.”
