Saldaa was revealed as both the lead actress and an executive producer. The show’s creators are Attica Locke and Tembi Locke, with Attica Locke (Little Fires Everywhere) also serving as showrunner. Both Lockes and Reese Witherspoon are executive producers, as are Lauren Neustadter (The Morning Show), Richard Abate (13 Hours), Jermaine Johnson, and Will Rowbotham (Olympic Dreams).

Netflix From Scratch: The Plot
Amy is fresh off the plane from Texas, exploring Italy and trying to experience what she may never have the opportunity to do again, such as taking art classes and tasting delicious food. A chance meeting with Lino, an Italian chef, sparks the romance of a lifetime.
The two embark on a life of love together, but it is not without challenges. Amy’s parents want her to return to law school, whereas Lino’s parents are concerned about him marrying a Black American woman. The two persevere, marrying and continuing to face whatever life throws at them, even when things get difficult.
As they settle into life in America, Lino has a difficult time finding a job that fulfills him. In Italy, he was a chef at a restaurant, but he’s having trouble breaking into that realm in the United States. He begins working as a waiter, but he struggles with the fact he can’t do what he’s truly passionate about.
Lino’s life is turned upside down when he is diagnosed with cancer. What was supposed to be a beautiful life of food and art became a life of doctor’s appointments and cancer treatments while raising a young daughter. Viewers will have to wait and see how Lino and Amy overcome their challenges and how their love triumphs.
Based on the trailer, it’s unclear what Amy starts doing for work after the two move to America. She is adamant about not returning to law school, but it is unclear how or if she is supporting the couple while Lino attempts to re-enter the culinary world. She is frequently shown painting, so there is hope that she will be able to make time for her passion. Perhaps she even uses it to support her family financially.
